Description On February 17TH, 1528, the troops of Emperor Charles V abandoned Rome after an occupation of 8 months; occupation that began when German mercenaries didn't receive their pay after fighting against French troops -supported by Pope Clement VII-. Those mercenaries went to Rome after mutiny and ravaging the city for three days after assaulting it. Even the Pope, who had taken refuge in the castle of Sant'Angelo, had to pay a ransom in exchange for his life. Etiquetas CharlesV
